José López burst onto the Sub League 2 stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie shortstop for Beloit garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.
The 22-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .478 (11-23) with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs last week.
López has a .352 average and a .435 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 38 hits, 2 home runs and driven in 33 runs. |
 | Monday, May 3rd, 2027: Brown Wins SL1 Honor
25-year-old Bruce Brown made a few Rancho Cucamunga headlines during this past week as the rookie shortstop proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Sub League 1 officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.
He cracked 12 hits in 25 at-bats to put up a .480 average. Brown collected 1 home run, 9 RBIs and scored 10 runs.
This year Brown is batting .283 with 1 home run. He has scored 18 runs and driven in 17. |
| Saturday, May 1st, 2027: Gómez 5-7 Against Dayton
Domingo Gómez told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."
Well, that's just what Gómez of the Rancho Cucamunga did against the Dayton. He went to the plate 7 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Dayton, who suffered a 21-7 defeat.
"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."
D. Gómez doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, struck out in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, hit a three-run double in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
In his season totals Gómez has 2 home runs and a .370 batting average. |
